Dear Pack 52 Families!
I hope you and your loved ones are well. Pack 52 will restart Cub Scout activities in September. As with so many other things, our approach will be different this year. Notably, we will not hold large group / indoor meetings and we will not use indoor classrooms for weekly Den meetings for the foreseeable future. Instead, we will have a mix of small group / outdoor and virtual-video Den meetings, and other outdoor activities using standard social distancing, mask-wearing, hand-washing, etc. Some outdoor activities we’re looking forward to include Den-based Adventure skills building (e.g., knot-tying, campfire-building), small group hikes, service projects (like park clean-ups), model rocket-launches, and possibly family camping. We also intend to host our Annual Pack 52 Pinewood Derby in March, but using a different format to ensure safety. Den meetings will begin on September 22nd, and Den-specific information will be communicated soon. Everyone’s safety and health will be our top priority in all of our activities. Parent / adult involvement will be more important than ever to ensure our Cub Scouts can participate safely in any outdoor activity and successfully in virtual-video meetings. We also understand that each family has its own view on the right level of participation in any in-person activities, and we will attempt to be as flexible as possible in supporting completion of Cub Scout Adventure requirements. Per BSA guidelines, anyone who is sick or in a higher-risk health category should not attend in-person activities. We will revise our approach to meetings and activities throughout the year as conditions change. We will have a Cub Scout Pack 52 “Drive-Thru” Recruiting & Sign-Up Event on Friday, September 18th, at 6:00-7:00 pm, at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School parking lot. Please tell a friend! We are requesting adult volunteers to be Den Leaders / Assistant Den Leaders for our Lion (Kindergarten), Wolf (2nd grade), and Bear (3rd grade) Dens. Please consider volunteering! We’re fortunate to have a lot of experienced leaders in our Pack who can help you be successful. Our annual dues for the 2020-2021 season will be $150 per Cub Scout (plus a one-time $25 Joining Fee if new to BSA). BSA national and Washington Crossing Council have increased their fees significantly. As a result, Pack 52’s $150 dues cover the mandatory BSA National registration fee ($66) & the Washington Crossing Council local council service fee ($60), plus Boys Life magazine ($12) and a nominal amount for local Pack 52 expenses, like belt-loops ($12). We have kept the local Pack 52 portion of the dues low this year to help offset the BSA / WCC increases – we’re able to do this because of last year’s strong fundraising, combined with reduced large group events. For your awareness, many neighboring Cub Scout Packs have increased their dues to $200 or more. We want Cub Scouts to be accessible to everyone and financial assistance is available for those who need it. Payment of dues will be by check only, made out to “OLMC Pack 52”. Please mail your check to me or stop by our “Drive-Thru” Sign-up Event to drop off your check on September 18th. All Cub Scouts who pay their dues by October 1st will receive a free model rocket kit. Please email me or drive by our “Drive-Thru” Recruiting & Sign-Up Event to confirm your intention to participate in our Cub Scout Pack 52 in the 2020-2021 season, and let me know if you plan to attend in-person activities or virtual only. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please feel free to contact me ([email protected]) or Kat Broadhead ([email protected]). Thank you. Dave Cunning Cubmaster Pack 52
