Hello Pack 52 Families!
I hope everyone was able to weather (no pun intended) the recent storms that impacted our area, even as we prepare for what may be Round 3. If any of you are still being impacted from the recent weather and require any assistance, please let us know! I would like to claim getting this newsletter out a bit late this month on an inclement weather delay, but since a Scout is Trustworthy, the reality is that these past few weeks have been extremely busy for me (even without the impact from the weather). That said, March is always an interesting month and the start of a time of change. We move into Daylight Savings Time as we start to move out of Winter, while Spring is not quite here, yet. As a Pack, we celebrate the anniversary of Scouting in March, as well as watch our oldest Cub Scouts take the next step in Scouting by becoming Boy Scouts. But before we get into this month's newsletter, I want to take a moment to thank a number of people who are moving on from the Pack this month as their sons cross over into Boy Scouts. Our Pack would not be where it is today with out the leadership and support from Chris Levesque, Dan Ring, and Tom Santoli who are some of, if not the, longest members of the Pack 52 family. Without their leadership, guidance, and participation, we would not be the Pack we are today. For our newer families, these three may not be as familiar to you, but you would have seen them at our Pack meetings, camping trips, and most of our outings. I can't thank them enough for getting us to this point and I congratulate them as they as well as their sons take on the challenges and opportunities at the next level of Scouting. If you see them at Den Meetings this month, or at the Blue and Gold Banquet, congratulate their sons,, but PLEASE thank them for everything they've contributed to the Pack over the last several years. They will be missed! Now, let's dig into this month!

Is it just me or is this new year already flying by?? We’re gearing up for the Super Bowl (Fly Eagles Fly!!), the Super Bowl Hoagie Sale, and we’re only a few weeks from this year’s Pinewood Derby (get those cars ready!).
After that, we’re on to the Blue and Gold Banquet, watching our Arrow of Light scouts cross over to Boy Scouts, in March, and the spring family camping trip in May, with a few other fun things (like Scout Day at the Phillies) thrown in for good measure! But first, we need to be Cheerful - while getting through this winter, and rooting for our hometown team, so on to the good stuff! Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that a new year has started and we’re already half way through our Scouting year. I am extremely proud of all the accomplishments that the Scouts have completed already.
As we start into 2018, and the weather (hopefully, soon!) starts to improve, we’re going to be getting into some of the neat activities that we have planned each year. We start off the new year with a sleepover at the Franklin Institute, then our next major fundraiser, the Super Bowl hoagie sale, will kick off shortly with the sale being held on Sunday, February 4th. Following that, we’ll have the Pinewood Derby and then the Blue and Gold Banquet in March. We have an action-packed Spring lined up, and I hope you’re all as ready and as anxious as I am to watch your scouts participate in all of these activities and continue earning their achievements along the way! Now, on to the good stuff!
Now, on to the good stuff!
As for the Popcorn Sale, we’re evaluating the early numbers, and awaiting confirmation from the Council, but it looks like we sold just over $11,000 in popcorn this year! That’s amazing! And we broke our goal of $10,000 for this year! With our sales, and the approx. $1800 that we received in direct donations, the Pack should end up with about $6,000 in total profit. I’m hearing rumors of a pizza party in the near future to celebrate! We owe Kat Broadhead a huge Thank you! for putting this all together and coordinating our most successful fundraiser, yet!
Also, I have to say that I’m really excited about this weekend’s camping trip. While it may end up being a bit chilly (though, thankfully, it should be dry), I know that there are a lot of great activities in store and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and getting to know all of the scouts a bit better. Another big Thank You! to Hugo Lentze for coordinating this outing and getting the campsite squared away. This is going to be our largest campout yet, and a good time will be had by all! And speaking of the camping trip, I have give out one more big Thank You! to the Arrow of Light Den, and Den Leaders Dan Ring, Chris Levesque (with special guest appearance by Bryan Munshower) for their awesome job putting together October's Pack Meeting. Hopefully some of the lessons from that meeting will be fresh in our minds this coming weekend (and we won't hear anyone yelling, "Oh No! Not That!"). On last item before we get into this coming month - our monthly Leadership Meeting is this coming Monday (6 November 2017) at 6:30PM in the Simon Stock house. We’ll be discussing the plan for the coming months and start looking at some of the bigger things we have coming up (like Scoutbook and the Blue and Gold banquet – more on those below). All parents are welcome to come to the meeting and participate in the discussions. Now, on to the good stuff!
Once again, I’d like to welcome all of our new families to Pack 52! As I mentioned in my kickoff letter last month, I’m continuing to refine this monthly Cubmaster's Corner (seems that name has stuck), and I will try to focus this newsletter on more broader topics than the weekly updates. On the first Monday of each month, we hold a Leadership Meeting at 6:30PM at the Simon Stock House. Parents are welcome to attend this meeting and help as we plan out the activities for that month, and the following months. Our next Leadership Meeting will be this Monday, 2 October 2017. Now, on to the good stuff! Please take a moment to read this important message from Doylestown Cub Scout Pack 52's new Cubmaster, Jim Kimmel, about important information for the upcoming year. Hello Parents!!I hope everyone is having a great summer! I would like to extend a special welcome to the new parents joining Pack 52 this year, as well as the parents whose boys are continuing their Scouting Adventure in our Pack! It’s hard to believe, I know, but we’re a few weeks away from a new school year starting, which means we’re getting close to kicking off a new Scouting year in Pack 52. I am honored to be serving as Cubmaster for Pack 52 for the 2017-2018 Scouting year, and am looking forward to getting to know all of you better as I get started in this new role. I have big shoes to fill, as Chris Levesque has done a tremendous job as Cubmaster for the last several years! As we start looking forward to the coming year, there are several changes coming and I wanted to make sure that you are all aware of these as we go through the year. Our Pack continues to grow, and with that growth, we may need to do some things a bit differently, while doing our best to keep our Pack family atmosphere, to help ensure the best experiences possible for our Scouts. |
