Hello Pack 52!
Clocks spring ahead this coming weekend! That’s a good sign that Spring is right around the corner and racing in fast (though perhaps not as fast as our Pinewood Derby cars! While we’ll lose an hour of sleep on Sunday, we’ll soon be heading outside for activities!! Also, there may not be weekly update next week, but Den Meetings should be back to their regular schedule, and upcoming events are updated below. Now on to this week’s updates…

We are only one week away from our annual Pinewood Derby. We're looking forward to seeing everyone's awesome car designs!! We wanted to send out a few reminders for next weekend, and a call for volunteers. Please read the following and make sure you and your Scout are ready for race day!! Please note the location change: The Pinewood Derby will be held on March 9th, from 9AM - 1PM (See Schedule Below) at St. Mary's Hall (across Maple Ave from OLMC Church). Breakfast is Served! As a result of our excellent fund raising this year, the Pack Leadership has decided to provide a continental breakfast during this year's Pinewood Derby! So, bring your appetites along with your cars! Volunteers NeededIt takes a bit of work to set up and run the Pinewood Derby each year, so we've created a SignUp Genius for the various roles we need to fill: www.signupgenius.com/go/4090D4BAFAC22A6F58-pinewood1 2 Volunteers for Friday night (Set up track and Room)
2 Volunteers for each Round for Car Registration (9AM and 11AM) 2 Volunteers for each Round to help with lineup prep and race starting (10AM and 12PM) 2 Volunteers at the end to help with track break down and room clean up (1PM) We also need (if anyone has one) a projector screen and perhaps a microphone that we can use through the event. Pinewood Derby RulesAs in previous years, we will be using the Tohickon District's Pinewood Derby Rules. These rules are available here: http://storage.washingtoncrossingbsa.org/event/docs/1046/pinewood_rules_2018.pdf Some of the key items in the rules to be aware of:
ScheduleAs previously indicated, we're going to break up the racing into two rounds this year. In order to race you must register your car before the start of racing for that round. Your car will only race in one round. Here's the schedule for Saturday, March 9: 8AM - Setup 9AM - Registration Opens for Tiger and Wolf Dens 10AM - Registration for Tiger and Wolf Dens closes; Racing Starts 11AM - Registration Opens for Bears, Webelos, and Arrow of Light; Tiger and Wolf Den Trophies 12PM - Registration Closes; Racing Starts 1PM - Racing Ends; Bear, Webelos, and AoL Trophies Clean up and Break Down If your Scout cannot race with their Den, they may register and race in the other round, however they may not end up eligible for the Fastest Car trophy in their Den. RegistrationPlease make sure you arrive with time before your racing starts to register your Scout's car. Registration will consist of entering info (Scout Name, Den, etc) as well as verification that the car meets the requirements (weight/size) in order to race.
If any adjustments are needed, they will need to be made before registration closes and racing begins. Once a car is registered, it will no longer be accessible by the Scout until racing concludes. Top FinishersThe Fastest Car in Each Den will receive a trophy. The Best Looking Car in Each Round (10-11, 12-1) will receive a car. Judging for this award will be independent (and generally done by the Den Chiefs, if in attendance). The top 3 Fastest Cars from each Den will be eligible to go on to the District Pinewood Derby, which is scheduled for Sunday, March 24th (in the morning before our Blue & Gold Banquet). Registration for this will need to be completed on the 10th, so eligible Scouts will be contacted later on the 9th to confirm attendance at the District race. Looking forward to a great day of fun racing!!
Hello Pack 52!
It’s Hard to believe that February is almost over, but Spring is just around the corner! With the State Street Players still at OLMC, we have one more week of Tuesday night den meetings outside of OLMC School. Please keep in contact with your Den Leader(s) about meeting location(s) for this Tuesday. Also, we’ve updated the information about the Pinewood Derby, and we’ll post a separate item just on that last this week. Now on to this week’s updates… Hello Pack 52!
I hope you all enjoyed last week’s Pack Meeting. Sorry for the technical difficulties, but I linked the Pinewood Derby videos we tried to show down below. As we’re closing in on summer, Pack activites will start to ramp up again, so stay tuned for more information to come. And a reminder, with the State Street Players now at OLMC, we are losing access to the classrooms on Tuesday nights for the next several weeks. Please keep in contact with your Den Leader(s) about meeting locations. The Pack meeting on February 19 will still be held in the cafeteria. Now on to this week’s updates… Is it just me or is this new year already flying by?? We’re gearing up for the Super Bowl (Fly Eagles Fly!!), the Super Bowl Hoagie Sale, and we’re only a few weeks from this year’s Pinewood Derby (get those cars ready!).
After that, we’re on to the Blue and Gold Banquet, watching our Arrow of Light scouts cross over to Boy Scouts, in March, and the spring family camping trip in May, with a few other fun things (like Scout Day at the Phillies) thrown in for good measure! But first, we need to be Cheerful - while getting through this winter, and rooting for our hometown team, so on to the good stuff! Hi Pack 52 Families,
Here is our weekly update for the week of January 29, 2018:
